Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)
Would you like to be involved?
West Midlands Ambulance Service acknowledges
the importance and benefits of involving and engaging with the
communities served by the Trust. The Trust invites the local
community, staff and our patients to shape the future of the health
service we provide across the Region, by becoming members of the
West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust Patient and Public
Engagement Group (PPEG).
- To become a member you must be 16 or over, but you do not need
any particular skills, qualifications or experience
- There is no charge for membership
- Members do not get any preferential NHS treatment and receive
the same care as non-members
The Different Levels of
Membership
The Trust is aware of peoples different
expectations with some requiring more information and updates than
others, therefore, our membership is in two levels to enable our
members to choose the level of involvement that best suits their
needs and requirements.
The three levels of membership are:
- Level 1 - This is our minimum membership level. As a
Level 1 member you will receive information about us about once a
year. This information will be fairly brief and will be about
how the Trust is performing and how services are developing and
changing.
- Level 2 - Membership at this level is more active and enables
people to have more of a say in how we address patient and public
needs in our Trust. Members at this level are given the
opportunity to attend free seminars, take part in focus groups,
attend readership panels and respond to surveys about the
Trust.
In addition, they receive two news updates throughout the
year. From time to time, we may also ask some of our Level 2
members to take part in market research on behalf of the
Trust. We will use this to help us understand how we are
performing, which parts of the services and facilities are doing
really well and those we need to improve.
It is envisaged that Patient & Public Engagement Group
members will automatically become members of the West Midlands
Ambulance Service NHS Trust in shadow format and on successful
achievement of becoming a Foundation Trust. Ambulance Trusts
will be allowed to commence the Foundation Trust application from
April 2009.
