Become a Governor
Our full compliment of 29 governors will sit on a Members'
Council and play an important part in the decision-making process
of the Trust. Governors will lend their individual skills and
knowledge at the highest level of the organisation. Because
governors can be patients, local residents, staff or stakeholders
this is particularly important as it means that the voice of
local people can be heard right at the highest level in the
Trust.
Being a governor also means you can develop your skills in a number
of different areas. You do not need any specific qualifications or
experience to become a governor; you just need enthusiasm and the
wish to improve your local NHS ambulance service.
What is the role of a governor?
Governors will cover a wide range of activity, often dependent
on their particular skills and interests.
In general the responsibilities of a governor will be as
follows:
- Undertaking statutory duties, such as appointing and setting
pay and conditions for the Chair and Non-Executive Directors.
- Representing members and ensuring their voice is heard.
- Support, challenge and hold the Trust Board to account.
- Acting in an advisory role, bringing the public and patient
perspective to the Members' Council.
- Being an ambassador and guardian for WMAS, including reaching
out to new members, and ensuring WMAS puts the needs of patients
first.
