FATALITY ON RAILWAY LINE
Monday 11th July 2011 – 6.15pm – Murray MacGregor
A man has died after being in collision with a
train in Birmingham.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to
the railway line near to University Railway Station in Edgbaston at
around 4.50pm Monday.
An ambulance, a senior paramedic officer and
the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene which
was close to the junction of Ssomerset Road and Edgbaston Park
Road.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman
said: “Crews arrived to find that the man had suffered very serious
multiple injuries. Sadly, it was immediately apparent that
nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the
scene.
“The driver of the train was extremely shaken
and was assessed by ambulance staff but did not require hospital
treatment.
“A woman passenger was evacuated from the
train at the scene due to an existing medical condition. The
other passengers were taken to a nearby station on the train.”
