Intermediate Life Support
4 hours Course

This course is designed to suit the needs of the
practising Health Care Professional. Students are expected to
have good understanding of Basic Life Support and the
Resuscitation Council (UK)
guidelines.

Early defibrillation and early advanced care are essential parts
of the chain of survival. As a Health Care Professional you will be
expected to perform these stages and an integral component to your
scope of practice.
What will the course cover:-
- Basic Life Support
- Oro-pharangeal airways
- Bag, valve and masks
- Oxygen
- Automatic External
Defibrillation
- Basic anaphylaxis
At the end of the course, the
student will be able to:-
- Act safely, promptly and effectively
when dealing with a cardiac arrest
- Perform manual techniques to ensure a
patent airway
- Correctly use, size and insert and
oro-pharangeal airway
- Clear an airway by correctly using a
mechanical suction device
- Recognise the component parts of a
bag, valve and mask
- Administer Oxygen safely and in
accordance with the Health and Safety regulations
- Perform chest compressions in
accordance with current procedures
- Recognise potential hazards when
operating a defibrillator
- Perform early defibrillation in
accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines
- Identify allergens and physiological
response to the allergen
- Review Resuscitation Council (UK)
guidelines on acute life threatening anaphylaxis
- Recognise current prescriptive drugs
that are used to treat an anaphylaxis crisis
