A West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) volunteer who has helped save lives on more than 500 emergency calls is now preparing to take centre stage after being selected to join the National Blue Light Symphony Orchestra.
Shipston-on-Stour Community First Responder (CFR) Ray Coyte, has been selected as the orchestra’s new double bass player, joining talented musicians from ambulance, police and fire services across the UK.
Ray has volunteered with WMAS for more than three years and during that time has responded to more than 500 emergencies, providing vital care to patients in his local community before ambulance crews arrive.
Away from his volunteer role, Ray is a talented musician who performs with orchestras across the UK and internationally. He will make his debut with the National Blue Light Symphony Orchestra at its concert in Bath on Saturday (15th August).
Ray said: “Volunteering as a Community First Responder is incredibly rewarding and I’m proud to be able to support my local community when people need us most. Music has always been another huge part of my life, so being invited to join the National Blue Light Symphony Orchestra is a real honour. I’m looking forward to performing alongside so many talented musicians who all share a background in the emergency services.”
The National Blue Light Symphony Orchestra was established to bring together musicians from across the emergency services while promoting wellbeing and supporting the positive impact music can have on mental health. The orchestra also champions the benefits of music therapy through its performances and outreach work.
WMAS Community Response Manager, Tim Cronin, said: “Our Community First Responders make an incredible contribution to the communities they serve, giving up their own time to help patients in need. Ray has already made a remarkable difference through his volunteering and it’s fantastic to see him recognised for another talent outside of the ambulance service.
