Claire Brown – Wednesday 27th August 2025 – 5.45pm.
A man has been rescued from the Staffordshire Peak District before being airlifted to a major trauma centre after falling down a steep hillside this afternoon.
The incident happened near to Ilam Moor Lane, in the village of Ilam, at 10.46pm earlier today. An ambulance, paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were responded to the scene. The Trust’s control room also requested assistance from Peak District Mountain Rescue.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When WMAS arrived they found the man located on a steep area of hillside, approximately 100 metres from ground level, after reportedly falling down part of the slope.
“He had sustained potentially serious injuries and received trauma care from ambulance staff on the hillside. Once stabilised, mountain rescue and fire service colleagues safely lowered the patient to ground level using a rope system. The man was then carried to the awaiting air ambulance before being flown to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further emergency care.”
