Two men have been fatally injured and two others have been taken to hospital following a collision in Upper Gornal this morning.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the incident involving two cars and a van at the junction of Highgate Street and Clarence Street at 7.32am and sent four ambulances, three paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Ambulance crews arrived to find five patients. Two men, the driver and passenger in the first car, were in a critical condition.
“Ambulance staff immediately administered advanced life support. Despite their best efforts, it became clear that nothing more could be done to save the men and they were confirmed deceased at the scene.
“A third man from the first car was in a critical condition. He received advanced trauma care before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham by land ambulance with medics from the air ambulance travelling on board for continued treatment en route.
“A fourth man, the driver of the van, was assessed and treated for injuries not believed to be serious. He was conveyed to Russells Hall Hospital for further assessment.
