This study tested a mechanical device which delivers chest compressions, to see if it improved patient outcomes compared to ambulance crews doing the same task.

When a patient’s heart stops beating, one of the most important treatments is chest compressions to keep blood flowing around the body. This study showed that the high quality treatments delivered by NHS ambulance paramedics were not improved by using a mechanical chest compression device.
