West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) is proud to mark Pride Month 2025 with the launch of its ‘Proud to Be Here’ campaign.
Throughout June, WMAS will share powerful stories that explore what it means to be proud – be that as part of an inclusive workplace, to allow staff to express who they are, proud to stand together as a diverse team and deliver excellent patient care. It is a celebration of identity, community and belonging, shining a spotlight on LGBTQ+ colleagues from across the Trust.
PROUD Network Chair, Ash Deakins, said: “Pride Month is about celebrating our community and acknowledging the contributions LGBTQ+ people make to the world around us.
“At a time when for many in our community, simply being able to show up as their authentic selves takes a lot of courage, Pride Month couldn’t be more important…” PROUD Network Chair, Ash Deakins
“At a time when for many in our community, simply being able to show up as their authentic selves takes a lot of courage, Pride Month couldn’t be more important and serves to remind us how far society has come, and how important it is for us to keep moving forward.
“I am incredibly proud to work for an organisation that not only recognises who I am, but welcomes and embraces diversity within it; and to be able to support our people to be their authentic selves, be visible and make their contribution to making our organisations and communities a more inclusive space is a privilege.”
The Trust’s commitment to inclusion is reflected through its active staff networks, regular training, and a clear stance against any form of discrimination or hate.
Director of People, Carla Beechey, added: “WMAS is committed to creating a work environment where everyone feels safe, respected and valued.
“Be it through who they are, who they love, a disability, their sex or the colour of their skin, we see the challenges our staff face both in their professional and personal lives.
“We feel as an organisation that we want to be open and honest with them and show that we will support them to deliver excellent patient care. Many staff still face challenges due to their background and that is why it is so important that we demonstrate visible support as their employer.”
