The UK flooding agencies give advice on things you can do to prepare for flooding to keep yourself and your family safe.
Do
- If your home is at risk of flooding, the Environment Agency website explains how to prepare a flood plan and an emergency flood kit in advance.
- Charge your mobile phone devices.
- Park your car outside the flood zone.
- Store valuables, furniture, electrical devices and important documents up high.
- Turn off gas, water and electricity supplies.
- Pets? Can you arrange a suitable place of safety for them?
- Help vulnerable relatives or neighbours with support. They may need help with food and supplies during flooding.

If floodwater rises too quickly and without warning, you could find yourself in an emergency situation like this. Here’s what to do.

- Go to the highest level in the building
- Only go to the roof if necessary

- Go into attic spaces to avoid being trapped by rising water.
