What is the Graduate Paramedic role?
Our graduate paramedic role is a structured programme which helps to properly integrate and support newly qualified paramedics into the ambulance service enabling you to consistently apply your academic knowledge, skills, and placement experience into confident practice. As a newly qualified paramedic (NQP) you will be expected to undertake a two-year consolidation period of learning. This includes reflective practice and feedback, where thorough direct and indirect clinical supervision, you will learn to apply your knowledge.
What do I need to apply?
- You must be due to qualify in pre-hospital care resulting in registration from the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and be in your final year of your programme
- Hold a full UK Driving licence with at least a provisional C1 licence at the point of application. You will be expected to hold the full C1 category on your driving licence prior to starting on the induction programme
What does the Recruitment Process involve?
Applicants who have not completed placements with our Trust will be expected to successfully pass the below:
- Highway Code assessment
- Driving assessment
- Fitness assessment
- Interview
- Clinical OSCE
- VIVA clinical case study
- Advanced life support (ALS) assessment
Applicants who have already completed placements with the Trust throughout their studies, will be expected to undertake assessments which consists of the following:
- Highway code
- Driving
- Fitness
- Interview
Pre-employment processes
Successful candidates will need to provide two references (one being from your University Tutor and the other from your mentor), an enhanced DBS certificate. You will also be required to attend a face-to-face appointment with our occupational health provider to confirm fitness for the role.
Once you start with the Trust, you will be placed onto a seven-week induction programme which includes a full clinical introduction and the four week Level 3 Emergency Response Ambulance Driving qualification. Please note, the induction programme is on a pass or fail basis.
