For many years, WMAS has provided the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (PTS) covering Coventry and Warwickshire.
Which hospitals are covered?
If a patient is registered with a GP in Coventry and Warwickshire and is eligible for PTS, we will provide transport to hospitals and treatment centres locally, throughout the West Midlands and the rest of the country. This includes regular journeys for dialysis for example, and specialist centres elsewhere in the UK.
Main sites include:
- University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire
- St Cross Hospital, Rugby
- George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton
- Warwick Hospital
- Stratford Hospital
- Ellen Badger Hospital, Shipston-on-Stour
- Leamington Spa Hospital (CERU)
- Myton Hospice sites
- plus other sites including dialysis units
Occasionally, patients need to travel outside the local area. We provide transport for many parts of the West Midlands including:
- Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham
- Heartlands Hospital
- Good Hope Hospital
- Solihull Hospital
- Walsall Manor
- Worcester Royal Infirmary
- Alexandra Hospital, Redditch
- Kidderminster Hospital
- New Cross, Wolverhampton
- Russell’s Hall, Dudley
- plus some treatment centres for mental ill-health in the Black Country
A number of hospitals in the West Midlands have their own PTS arrangements. We provide PTS for City and Sandwell General Hospitals and Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre which you can find out more about here. Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership is not covered by West Midlands Ambulance Service.
We do not provide transport for patients to private appointments, nor to routine GP appointments. We also do not provide transport to treatment centres on behalf of Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership Trust for patients with mental ill-health, and to tissue viability clinics in the city for Coventry patients. If you are travelling into any of the hospitals listed from outside the West Midlands, you will need to call your home provider.
Book a Journey – I am a Patient
If you’re a patient and wish to book a patient transport service journey with us, please call the booking request line on 01926 310 312 and select ‘option 1’. This office is open from 8.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.
When you call and speak to our PTS control room staff, you will be asked a number of questions to determine your eligibility and to ensure we send the appropriate staff and vehicle for your journey. Please ensure you have your appointment details to hand, as well as your GP practice and NHS number ready. All calls are recorded.

Book a Journey – I am a Healthcare Professional
The PTS contract provided in Coventry and Warwickshire has been commissioned by the Integrated Care Board which covers Coventry & Warwickshire.
Patients who are not registered with a GP in the local area are not included in this contract. We will endeavour to make transport arrangements for these patients but request at least 48 hours notice wherever possible.
If patients need to travel outside the local area for treatment, WMAS provides transport in many parts of the West Midlands listed in the ‘Book a Journey – I am a Patient’ (LINK to section above?) section of this page.
To make a new booking on behalf of a patient call 01926 310312. To advise us that a patient is ready, register for our online service, or make general enquiries call 01926 310312 or email [email protected].
